Regular programming.
Hi, hi. Welcome to another newsletter. Word on the street is it's 1 month till my birthday, so that's new. I can swear I know someone whose birthday is today, we probably don't speak anymore.
It's 7:16am and I don't have to go to work just yet. I'm working the weekend shift this week, and I also did last week, but I won't be working the next two weekends. There's some kind of arrangement. You see, I was transferred to another branch at the Surus.
I didn't want to admit it, but I prefer this place to Ajegunle. When I was leaving, I felt so sad because I was already used to the people I was seeing around, and when I first came here, I cried the first two nights. It felt like I was taking too long to adjust and I didn't know how to be a human being.
The schedule here is also different, I work 6:30am - 3pm. Normally, it would be highly inconvenient, but because of the living situation, it's only a little inconvenient—because well, nobody wants to work by 6:30am.
I don't mind staying here for 3 months straight. I haven't stayed anywhere for a long time, actually. I stayed at Ikoyi for a month and 2 weeks, maybe. Ajegunle was about 1 month (for some reason, it feels longer). Now, I'm at Surulere and I've been here for about 2 weeks or so.
Once again, I'm wondering what the landlords have against water rushing from the taps. You have to buy water like a peasant. When I first came, I was wondering why there were so many people pushing those trucks of water, I soon figured it out.
It's not like there's no light, there's light. In fact, the light is almost constant. There's just no water, and I wonder how people are just chill about that.
I posted a mid-year wrap up featuring Mmeyene. If you've been reading the newsletter for a while now, you'll know Mmeyene. It's not the first time I'm having her on these things.
I thought I would be able to post mine with this newsletter, but I guess this newsletter has to go live first because I haven't even transferred the draft to the Substack editor. Subscribe to the Substack though, so you'll get it when it drops.
In the spirit of entering the second half of the year, here are the top 5 newsletters of the year so far. I did it according to the most read. I've written 16 newsletters so far. I'm also shocked!

Movies.

Since we last spoke, I've watched 3 movies. 9 Songs was basically porn, the description would try to fool you and make you think it's such a deep and interesting movie, it's not. It's just two people having sex over and over.
Let me even show you:
2 lovers, one summer, and the 9 songs that defined them.
Matt, a young glaciologist, soars across the vast, silent, icebound immensities of the South Pole as he recalls his love affair with Lisa. They meet at a mobbed rock concert in a vast music hall - London's Brixton Academy. They are in bed at night's end. Together, over a period of several months, they pursue a mutual sexual passion whose inevitable stages unfold in counterpoint to nine live-concert songs.

This was what made me want to watch it (I wanted to know the context).

Onto the next.
Rio was a fun animated film, nothing special about it tbh. Two birds falling in love was the whole thing.
Voicemails for Isabelle was so cute. I liked the songs used in the movie and it was hilarious, given the circumstances surrounding the plot (?).
